Well we had seen a great spectacle today a great long distance chase with a very exciting finish.
I may have said this before but today's race is what national hunt racing is all about for me.
Dressing up in finery, basking in the summer sun, lots of champagne on the lawn all have their place in
racing but national hunt is about the horses, the jockeys, the connections and the fans.
Today it was wet, cold, dirty and dark. It was an uncomfortable day but the sight of two brave chasers and two great jockeys also wet, cold and exhausted but giving their all for the sport we love so well was national hunt racing. Ask most of the people at the course today "coming back again"? and all will repeat yes, and I for one just can't wait for the next meeting. Looking ahead we are only 10 weeks from the Cheltenham festival and a further 3 to The Grand National. So today as I tuck in to another turkey sandwich I reflect that we have seen an excellent race today with one of the best long distance chasers around coming out on top.
See you next year !
